Checking out the resale site, an increasing number of products are being identified as NIB (not in box, I believe). While I can understand this for "vintage" items, I have problems understanding it for recently released, "authorized dealer" items. Perhaps you could clarify.

In other cases, NIB is for items that we can guarantee as never run, possibly never opened. Last year, we purchased the inventory of a hobby shop who stopped offering model trains. You can sill find MTL cars listed NIB of Resale from this buy. Also, on occasion, we receive items from collectors who may displayed the items or kept them in the box. If we have any doubt, we switch these to a rating of excellent.
We guarantee all purchases. I want Ztrack Resale to be the safest place to purchase new and used Z scale items. For this reason, if customers are not satisfied with their purchase, they can return it to us. Easy enough.

Correct. The first release was for Marklin Insiders only. I believe they offered a black DRG version a year or two after our blue version.
Did you see the winter version of the Borsig Mallet that Marklin released to dealers this year? Very interesting locomotive, even if it never ran the rails in real life.

Is this the winter camouflage #88055, with the condensor tender?
My next comment is not to slam Marklin, but... I do not understand why a manufacture with financial difficulties would take the time, money and resources to release a model that never actually ran the rails, in a very limited paint scheme, 1943.
That being said... I just bought one from an on-line dealer in Germany. It's a Marklin Christmas for me, as I was also lucky enough to have a fellow Z-buddy find a Marklin #88035 Bumble Bee for me, at original retail.

While I will agree with you in principle, I'm always surprised how well "fantasy" railroad schemes sell. Consider MTLs President and States series. If Marklin has done their marketing right, these units may sell better than a model of a real locomotive.

I do despise the whole MTL line of Micro-Mouse, Christmas Mouse, State Cars, etc. Again, I think this wastes money, time and resources when MTL could have been producing some of the N-scale body-style into Z-scale. But, then... we all know the folks in Talent, Oregon, do not believe that Z-scale is a viable business. If it wasn't for Joe D', North American Z would not be where it is now.
Oh, and... don't worry... I still have a steady supply of monthly projects for you through 2012. Maybe I should have Boeing, Mitsubishi and Sikorsky send my fees directly to you.

When I saw the winter version, I was really torn. I have been waiting for some time for Marklin to release the camouflaged steam locomotives from World War II. I had hoped they would release them. I have studied this era for many years and have collected other period locomotives and rolling stock. This includes Z-Panzer's amazing items. I wish Marklin had gone with a class 50 instead of the Borsig. But since this was the first 'winterized' locomotive from Marklin in Z, I decided to go for it.
Gerd, you are absolutely correct about the Bumble Bee. I have heard from Marklin insiders that Nn3 was the target audience for the locomotive.
There is a no doubt that Z scalers love their details and prototype accuracy. Alex and Gerd, your collaborations show that. AZL has a history or prototype specific details and I know we will see more releases from them in the future with prototype specific add on details. I also expect to see impressive new releases and options from MTL and Full Throttle in 2012.
There is no doubt that it is a good time to be in this scale. It is only going to get better.
