larger photo's please... was created by Havoc
This hobby of us is a rather visual one. Can we please have 640x480 photo's (at least, 800x600 would be better) in the threads instead of the postagestamps we have now? The avatar pictures are almost as large and have far less information to convey.

I know there is the gallery but that isn't very friendly to use. It is separate from the posts, the thumbs are so small you have to open the photo to really see what is on it (Z is small!). And with all the opening box effects it takes ages to open and if you want to see another pic you have to sit through all the effects again (there is not always a "next" button). Phew...

hear, hear !
I have been disappointed re photos in posts since the beginning of new ZCentral.
We are all grateful to Brad for the facility he provides and appreciate the work involved, so it is not a criticism, merely a gentle comment on the new forum.
It is indeed a visual hobby and if I wanted just yapping I would stay with Yahoo groups :silly: (boring).
I don't know whether it is global financial crisis that bites or some other reasons... but ZCentral seems to be poor shade of it's former self :( regardless of the new forum being far more glitzy that the old one

I think if there were just a way to put big pics in posts then it would be wonderful.

Indeed, it is only a request.

I have not yet tried photobucket here, lets see...

Nope, just as tiny as the rest.

This is a problem when using the firefox browser. When I view this post in internet explorer your image appears 640x259. I will check again if there is a cure for this yet.

IE yuck :woohoo: are you sure about that? :unsure:
another emergency security patch
Hope you can find the solution Brad, because I am not going back to Windows just for the pictures :P
I will have to try few other FireBoard forums to see if my Firefox suffers the same?
Thanks a lot
Chris

Euh...I'm using Opera :unsure: I use Opera on Gentoo, both on the desktop and the laptop. But at the office I use Opera on XP, I'll check if it is different there. Did a quick check on Konqueror and there it is a small pic as well.

Probably the forum soft uses a setting that is IE only. So much for standards.

Looked at this thread with Opera 9.63 on XP and the pic I posted is still postagestamp format.

Chris, I looked at the page you linked and the pics show fine. But if I look at the properties of the pics, then I see resolutions ranging from 1024x768 (first pic) to 800x600 (tird pic) and 448x336 (fifth pic) and they all show up the same size on the screen! If I save the images and look at them with Irfanview they have the resolution given in their properties. So it looks as if the forum software is doing some size conversion.

yeap, the only thing we need to know is how to set it up, so that the pictures show the size we want rather than postage stamp size...
I have searched FireBoard forum and haven't found anything relating to it so far :(

I wish it was a setup issue. I have max photo size set at 1500 x 1500 in the Fireboard setup. It appears as though another module we are using such as Community Builder, Jom Comment, Jom Gallery, CB Juice, Yootheme, etc, etc, may be causing the pics to thumbnail in SOME browsers but not all. Fireboard seems to work fine solo but does not play well with others. It is going to require someone with extensive php and mysql code writing skills to debug the source code. Thats where I get stuck. I can research, buy, and install, setup, and config open source php modules but I can only debug/re-code to a very limited extent.

Here is a 1200 wide image showing the previous image at full size browsing with IE.

"Something" is causing the image to thumbnail in some browsers?

Hi Brad, Thanks for the old college try. I'm going to post a test photo and see what I get. Cheers, Jim CCRR:ohmy:

I tried it and got a 'your photo is too large' message.

Trying again:::

Well it works for me. See next message.

Something is inserting max size tags in the code?

" <div class = "msgtext">Here is a 1200 wide image showing the previous image at full size browsing with IE.<br />
<br />
<img src='www.zcentralstation.com/media/kunena/attachments/legacy/images/Image2.jpg' width='180' style='max-width:180px; ' />

<br />
&quot;Something&quot; is causing the image to thumbnail in some browsers?</div>

OK, At least on my computer an XP, I am able to get a full sized photo if I lower the pixel count on my camera to the smallest numbers. ie. 640x480. So if you want to 'test' this out go ahead. Take your photos 'small' and see if that works. Cheers, Jim CCRR:)

Ok guys I think I got it? Looks good in fire fox to me! Max upload size = 1024 and all pics will be resized to 780 as the text area is 800. Anything wider pushes the user names and avatars off the right side into no-where land. What do you see?

:woohoo:

Ok, hang on. Allright, I changed it to max 1600px and 1000k file size. Try it. Now, that only applies to files uploaded directly into the forum. Images linked from other sites or our gallery is another story, they can be much larger but will be "thumbnailed" to 860px or so when viewed here, I believe.....possibly.

It was a setting after all. It was a setting called "Max Text Width". Go figure. It was thumbing to 180px. Thanks for the challenge guys!
