Tanks Alot!

New from Z Panzer..
M-48 tank.Used 60s and 70s by US Army and other NATO forces.
PzH2000 modern German howitzer.
Opel Blitz truck. Work horse of the Germans in WW2. Kind of like their version of the duce and half. I believe they were also produced after the war and would look good on German layouts to the 50s and 60s. Some still running today!!
These models are very accurate and clean, and very light, so you can fill a motor pool (perfect match for the MTL military buildings) or do your own rail loads.

Thanks for the post. Does anyone make US tanks and vehicles in Z scale that are the same quality as The ones shown here? I have a set of the MTL ones but have not done anything with them yet. Would any of the other items Z-panzer have pass off as close to US other them the sherman? I would like to do some thing with the millitary theme but I havent decided just what yet.

Yes, someone else does make Z military Equipment, but not yet marketing them. As far as other Z-Panzer items for US Army, Yes, the M113 Armored Personnel Carrier. Use to be a driver of these.

Military stuff is like railroad stuff. Got to do a bit of research to get it right. What might be good around 1950 wont look right in 1980 or 2010. MTL has great old building time military buildings that were designed for WW2, but are still in use today. MTL M1 tanks can be used from the 80s to today, their canvas covered ones more in the 40s to 50s. Sherman Tanks were used from WW2 up to the 50s,but would be cool to have next to the flagpole of an Army Base or Reserve Center. Believe it or not there are some in private collections, so if you were to do a layout with some reenactors or a parade, it would be OK too!
The M113 shown in the above picture, was the standard armored personnel carrier used from the early 60s to today. In the 60s they would be solid olive green with big white stars on them. In the 70s and 80s, they were painted different camouflage patterns, and in the time of the Gulf War to the present, they might be found in a solid sand color. There are also M-113s being used by law enforcement agencies,so feel free to slap a sheriffs department decal and blinking lights on one, and have them run through a Z scale crackhouse.
The M-48 tank that Andy from z panzer has come out with was used from the early 60s (maybe even late 50s, I will have to check) until late 60s and maybe later with National Guard units. These are the classic "green army men" tank, and would look great surrounding an invading UFO or something. They were used until late 70s and maybe early 80s by our NATO allies, and would also look keen next to the front gate of a local Army Reserve or Guard Center.

Kelley is spot on, the M48 is a really useful release in Z. They were in service right through from the mid 50s until the 1990s (with reserve and NG units) Although later versions were upgraded and turrets would look slightly different.
The M48 chassis soldiers on as the M88 Armoured Recovery Vehicle which is also pretty common riding the rails.
But American military rail loads are still poorly represented. So if anyone is listening out there here's a top ten wish list.

Duce and a half
M60A1
M551 Sheridan
MRLS
LVTP 7
Trailers (Large-Small)
Jeeps, M38 or MUTTs
M109 Self propelled gun
HMMWV (Humvees)
Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Truck (HEMTT)

SKYTREX has a lot of these and more in 1:200 www.skytrex.com/ and trust me (I did an entire reveiw and article for Ztrack years ago on 1:200 vs. 1:220) a 1:200 scale vehicle will look just as good on a Z scale layout. I have use SKYTREX a lot, they have great service, a great selection of Army vehicles of all nations and eras, and they have a really customer friendly web site.

I don't want to let the cat out of the bag just yet, but I think there might be one of the things on the top ten wish list coming soon...again a weapon system used by US and NATO forces..I will check with Andy to make sure.
The great thing about the stuff from Z Panzer is the weight..You can have a whole train load of stuff to pull around.

The Skytrex stuff is very good. I've used their stuff for gaming and I have the added advantage of living in the same town as the factory.
I just can't bring myself to use their 1/200th vehicles on rail cars. There is an appreciable difference in size and being white metal cuts the number you can use at any one time.
Used scenically I don't think they can be bettered especially if they are kept away from the trains but for rail loads 1/220th resin is the way to go,

They may be 1:285 but their detail is 1000% times better than Skytrex models.

And I hold heartily agree that you should not, NO!, can't use Skytrex models on Railcars as they are definitely TOOOO big! Just as GHQ models are too small.
