I guess a really cool Helecopter for the time period would be an H-3 or even cooler would be a flying banana. (not to steal the thunder of Loren and his Chinook)

If you see something- Take a picture and zap it down to Z on a color copier. This could include local traffic signs, store signs, eagles, etc etc. This can make your layout even more "mine" and distinctive.

This is a really fun form of photography. If interested, read up on tilt-shift photography. Usually this would involve a camera that accepts different lenses, but I have recently found out that certain point and shoot cameras can accept a “tilt lens adapter”.Kelley wrote: Wow. We try ot take pictures of models to make them look like real things..these guys are 180 degreees from us.

On Chat the other night we had mention of Belfrys. Here are two examples :
The upper one is in Lexington, Mass, and was rung to alert the Minutemen that the British were coming- April 19, 1775
The lower tower is at St Micheals, Maryland, Matitime Museum and both were used to call the local community to some type of important meeting.

Man, look at the width of some of those boards used back then. Can't afford boards like that anymore (that is, if you can find them). [When building from scratch, this is a good reminder that wider boards were used way back when and got progressively narrower throughout the years simply due to the lack of availability. If you can't seem to find "z scale lumber" when building something, think of what age the building you're making is, perhaps a wider board might be more appropriate?]Fred wrote: ...rung to alert the Minutemen that the British were coming- April 19, 1775...

That is a good observation. Makes perfect sense. I used to see logging trucks with 2 or 3 logs as a load, perhaps just one on occasion. Now it takes a forest full to fill a truck..........sad.
