What IS scale & what is NOT

Friendly suggestion - please avoid all capital text :)

... People who type with the 'Caps Lock' on, and type ALL IN CAPITALS ARE CONSIDERED TO BE SHOUTING, which is very rude in almost any environment!

Once you know that typing everything in capitals is shouting, you quickly realise how loud others who do this are.

This is considered to be the case whether you are writing in an e-mail, on a message board, chat room, website or news group...

BAMBUKO, PLEASE EXCUSE MY CAPS. I'M NOT TRYING TO BE RUDE AND I'M NOT SHOUTING. I USE AN ON- SCREEN KEYBOARD DUE TO MY DISABILITY. I USE CAPS BECAUSE I'M BLIND IN ONE EYE AND HAVE HEAVY CORRECTION IN THE OTHER AND I CAN'T SEE THE LOWER CASE LETTERS. IVE TRIED AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO USE VOICE RECOGNITION PROGRAMS DUE TO THE FACT THAT I SUFFER FROM CHRONIC PAIN AND MY VOICE CHANGES WITH PAIN LEVEL. I'M ALLERGIC TO PAIN KILLING DRUGS AND ALL OTHERS THAT MY DOCTOR SED WERE KEEPING ME ALIVE BUT I'M STILL HERE. I'VE ONLY HAD THIS COMPUTER AND BEEN ON THE INTERNET SINCE SEPT OF 2008. THIS RESPONSE HAS TAKEN ME ABOUT 25 MINUTES TO WRITE SO FAR, IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT FOR ME. I DIDN'T KNOW THAT CAPS MEANT SHOUTING. WHAT DUE I DO NOW. THANK YOU FOR LETTING ME KNOW. I REALLY DONT KNOW WHAT TO DO NOW. STOJINY

Understand, and of course you are excused :-)
My advice was in good faith (and stands for everybody else :P) without knowing your circumstances.
As for scale and gauge there were always two different things - trouble is that whereas in full size everything is in one scale (1:1) and runs on different gauges (narrow, standard, wide) in modelling there all the different scales (1:22,5 1:87 1:160 1:220 to name but few)and it sometimes happens that narrow gauge in one scale has the same gauge as standard gauge in another scale, etc, etc - hence the frequent confusion :woohoo:

Stojiny, hello. I too was terribly confused with scale and gauge. There was a time not long ago a few years, where I too had to use only CAPS. I am disabled and suffer from Marfans Syndrome, as well as a long list of debilitating conditions. I had retinal detachments in both eyes several time as well as level 6+ cataracts. Against all medical advice for Marfans patients I opted to have the cataracts removed and permanent lenses implanted, knowing there was a 90 chance of failure. Thank God it worked. After 30 years I can now read and see most things. So, yes, I fully understand the impact of your condition. Please continue to contribute as we all learn from each other. Best of luck and God bless.

Good on you Stojiny! What I find most remarkable about your situation is that you took on Z scale ( ;) ). Was it mainly for reasons of available space? I wear glasses (short-sighted), but I have to take them off when I'm doing something like oiling my locos.

Stojiny, Thank you for explaining your condition. I hope things improve for you to make modeling easier. Question: do you have trouble reading our posts in lower case or only when typing your responses? Please keep posting no matter what size letters you use, your input is valuable to us all.

Thanks,

Jerry
