Scenery in 30 seconds: how to color rocks
Image information
          Description

Here's a how-to for 30 second rocks. Plaster cast (Hydrocal is much lighter than plaster). They do not have to be comepletely dry. Get water color paints (NOT acrylic, but WATER) from your crafts or paint stores. These are VERY concentrated. 1" (2.5cm) makes 1qt/L of stain. Use a black to 'black wash' creating shadows and natural dirt. Use browns and yellow ochre to make shades of brown. Simply spray on until desired color. Not enough? spray more (or later). Not right color? spray more of another.
Bottom pix is blackwash. Note paint concentrates in corners, cracks & pockets. You can also brush specific areas. Top pix is combination. Very top is mostly only black. Right is mostly blend of browns+yellow ochre.(no black wash). Middle is brown blend over blackwash. Very middle has more blackwash over the brown blend
