search function on the forum was created by bambuko
I have enjoyed very much
Truckee River Layout
and in particular A River Runs Through It (thank you
BillMock
!!!)
Unfortunately, Recent Photos Gallery will move on soon and unless one knows where to look for it, or stumbles upon it accidentally, it will remain hidden in the bowels of Gallery section
The Search option only appears to be searching discussion forums, not gallery ... so the chances of beginner, just joining and looking for specific advice of finding the answer are negligible (I have tried searching for: river runs through - nothing found)
So my recommendation would be to place such excellent instructional topics as thread in the discussion forum (unless Brad can do something about searching the gallery?)
To me (at least), the greatest value of forum like this, lies in exchange of ideas and howtos
Having said all this, I do realise that:
a) nobody does any searching - it's a lot easier to ask ... and there is bound to be somebody who will remember
b) if you look at the popularity of the thread subjects - Off Topic , beats the rest (combined total) by a handsome margin ...
ps if you really want to search the forum, I suggest you use Google advanced search and search within domain

thanks Jim,
1) gallery included in the search function - you've taken it to Brad - thanks!
2) how about? tutorial or sticky section in the forum, where we would gather only the selected stuff that we don't want to disappear and make it easily available as a kind of reference section?
3) what does it say about Z and the forum, if the most popular section is OFF TOPIC ...
I don't have answer to this one

Chris, If you eliminate Who...How...What... then I think you find, Off Topic, a necessary Forum topic. Within the structure of the Forums we only have so many titles and we need a spot for "other" things. Previously you mentioned that no one studies or searches. I agree. The main function of ZCS is a library full of info. It would be great if Brad could expand the search engine. Unfortunately some of our early contributors to the original ZCS don't come around much anymore. They where the members that built the vast wealth of knowledge available here. Since the switch, we have a newer crop of members who may or may not be adding to the info base at the same rate as their predecessors. This is not their fault because virtually all answers to Z questions are already here and accessable to those who need them. Also the new site has not been around very long and it will take more time to fill the Forums with info to match the original Forums in the Archives. It will be interesting to see the 'depth' of info in the current ZCS a year from now. Hopefully, it will approach the Archives in quality and depth. Cheers, Jim CCRR:)

just before anybody gets upset with me
I wasn't suggesting that:
a) we should eliminate anything
b) that Off Topic is un-necessary (or in any way inferior to anything else)
otherwise I am (as usual) wildly in agreement with you
