Hello all,

at the ZFE board a question came up regarding a probably laser cut building kit. Is there anybody who can give more information about those kit/s?:

The only other information that Google brought up was that in the ZTrack issue Volume 5, Number 2 March/April 1999 a letter regarding this item can be found.

Uwe

Uwe,

Back is the time, Marklin USA released a series or laster etched wood kits. there were four kits. The own you are showing is the fire station. There also was a yard tower (shown below) #2643K.

Also released were a gas station, item 2644K and a diner, item 2642K. Ztrack announced these kits and has photos of them in the September/October 1998 issue. For those who have the 1998 CD, take a look on page 6.

Hello Rob,

thanks for the information. What I'm wondering about are two things:

Were they made in the US exclusively for the America market?

They are titled "Series II"... were there ever a "Serie I"?

I'm not certain, but "Series I" may refer to the solid cast resin buildings they sold earlier.

This included a strip of downtown stores, station, house, barn, church, factory and some others.

Uwe,

I think David is correct. The series 1 would have been the cast piece line. Yes, the kits were exclusive to the US market. They were sub-contracted to a company here in the US to produce. They were never listed in the standard Marklin catalog. We did run ads from Marklin Inc for these.

Thanks David and Rob. Those Serie I buildings seems to be the same which were included in some starter sets.
There was also a German serie of ready made buildings. I have one of those a mountain farm house #8406. I got it from my local dealer who had in stock since a long time. In this serie also some buildings from Northern Germany were available. But they are also hard to get now.

I just found a complete set on EBay. There were twelve buildings:

8401 Engadiner Chalet "Sankt Moritz"
8402 Engadiner Bauernhof "Silvaplana"
8403 Waliser Kirche "Sankt Leonhard"
8404 Almstadel mit Viehtränke
8405 Sennhaus "Nuders"
8406 Almhütte "Schönjöchel"
8407 Mühle "Serfaus"
8408 Berghof "Stuben"
8409 Bauernhof "Syke"
8410 Fischerkate "Pellworm"
8411 Strohkate "Pellworm"
8412 Nordfriesisches Langhaus "Sylt"

Unfortunately the price of 360 Euros isn't even close to my currently available budget... :(

HI Uwe..I have been following this thread on the German site.
I found a really cool building today at the Eisenbahnborse in Giessen. Its the 8968 Terrassenhaus. I dont remeber seeing these before. Has anybody got more of those?

Hello Kelley,

according to the threads here and at the ZFE board it seems that there are four series of buildings from Maerklin. First the two American classic series, and third the European ready built series I mentioned in the earlier message.

The fourth series (if I may call it so...) are the different kits that came out over time. Some are exclusively available from Maerklin, but some are just a different version from another kit. For the last I can name the 89800 . This kit is also available from Vollmer in different detail versions. Just check out those kits:
9457
9531
9550
9679

About the house 8968 I'm not completely sure, but it could look like it is the penthouse from the house 89690 . The penthouse from this kit is according to the text in the details for the kit meant to be able for use as a separate house for itself.

Uwe

I'd like to help you, Garth, but... no shipping to an APO box either, even though it's a U.S. postal code. :(

Guess not. Anyway, it ended with no bids, so it might be re-listed.

David I got your direct message and replied with a bid value but today I got a message saying my reply was not delivered to you for some reason. I see the listing as expired now so no big deal.

No biggie. Since it did not sell, it may be re-listed. At which point you can post your bid here, or contact me directly via david at davidksmith dot com.
