In the current issue of Ztrack, we are running an ad for EMTZ Models. One new product I want to draw attention to is their tugboat and barge set (item B11). Ztrack received a sample and I have to say I am very impressed by it. Growing up along the Ohio River, I saw these combination all of the time. EMTZ really nailed it with the scale and overall look of the boats. It is making me think about building a river modules sometime. I do encourage you to take a closer look at the ad in Ztrack and the EMTZ products. They are made in Spain and are nicely detailed.
EMTZ products are available exclusively through Euro Model Trains. There link to their website is:

I agree, the set is very nicely done, but the price is going to take it out of the grasp of many. Too bad as this would make a fine addition. Fred would especially like it.

Fred, you do have to dig a little to locate it. Once you get to the vehicles, then it is on one of the subsequent pages.
The EMTZ line is a mix of card stock, paper and other materials. Again, these are not your 'typical' paper buildings and I am hesitant to even go there. It is VERY important to note that these are not mass produced, hammered out items. These are all hand assembled pieces. Frankly, I think the price is quite fair for the complexity and detail of the finished set. I have other samples of their line and have been quite impressed.
For the record, I do not represent the line or the manufacturer. I am just passing along information on a new product that I think is cool. My only complaint is that I wish the barge came separately so I can do a larger mix with the tow.

With all these talented people on here that have not only technical know-how but, lasers, rapid prototyping, molding, and designing skills, I do not see why they could not build a kit of sorts for barges used along the Mississippi/Ohio rivers, using all kinds of materials. Of course one would have to make a rotary dump or some such barge loading facility. I guess it really wouldn't be worth making as I feel it is just me and perhaps 3 other people in the world that does Midwest railroading, and I am broke all the time. So yea carton would be my choice of materials.
So what do the autos look like??

Kelly- Nason Street Models Has two resin cast barges--Erie Canal Barge, and open scow barge. Both resin cast. Click on NSM banner on lower right side of ZCS page and then Z. I thought they had a third one but no can see.
Rob's Picture is very nice- Still unable to find on EMTZ site- Haven't got latest Ztrack. Searched under vehicals EMTZ B11 etc etc. Must be a clitch in CHAIR
This is a very good likeness of the river tug and barge units-- but often one tug would push multiple barges.
