Today, the first list of Markln's 2012 new items has been announced. Marklin is bringing back the GG1 in the Tuscan red scheme. For European fans, it appears Marklin is releases Swiss Re 4/4 II locomotives. These are classic electrics. The list posted as of today on the Marklin user forum is below:

So it wasn´t my imagination playing tricks on me at my LHS. Trouble is they are displaying used stuff with new stuff. Big cammo war engine is nice, if the Germans had actually built any.
If someone wants to be nice and celebrate "Give Kelley A Z Engine Day",(It is coming up soon you know), then I want this one.

Cabeese and tank cars, with modifications are OK but, does anyone used the other stuff? I know a lot of folks do like the GG1. Even the Germans that do N American railroading don´t bother with the Märklin US stuff.

they don't bother because Marklin stuff was overprised and prototypical not good enough e.g. truck spacing or F7.5...that business model doesn't work anymore.

Kelley, if you have a Märklin gon shrinked to scale 40' and put it on MTL trucks it doesn't look too bad. So that makes it to 3 car types which are sort of usable. For the rest I have to agree with Gerd.

The GG1 is a different animal than the other Marklin US motive power. It's the only one they built from the ground up instead of slapping a new shell over a European chassis, and I'm happy to see them back. They look great, run great, and have plenty of space under the hood to add weight. I filled the spaces under the hoods of mine with silly putty and they'll happily tow 30+ cars each (on a level test loop). If the price is anywhere near reasonable, I won't hesitate to grab another.
Much as the Pennsy and GG1 fan in me hates to admit it, though, Marklin would have been much better off in the US market if they'd invested in new tooling for something more ubiquitous than the GG1. If they were going to get one right, it should have been something that could be offered in road names for more than one region of the US.
Marklin's streamlined passenger cars were pretty good too, for that matter. Not 100%, but also not anything that any other manufacturer has offered a better version of- unlike every single one of their freight cars save the tanker and caboose. The streamlined cars don't need much more than replacement couplers to look convincing.
