Making Manually Operating Truck and Train Doors

Here are a few photos and 2 short videos of how i made manually opening truck dock doors for a scratch built building where you dont have access to the inside to move the door. I came up with this idea for the next project im doing for John M (Shamoo). The building has 20 truck dock doors in the front half of the building and a train bay with 3 tracks in the back half. The problem is the roof is permenent on the front half but the back half needs to be removeable to get at any train cars having trouble. The idea was just a simple lever and weight system so i made it so the door would slide up and down but be controled from the train bay.I used CA and glued 2 small washers to the back of the door to add weight so it would slide and not get caught up so gravity would pull it down easier.
I then glued on a small peice of styrene with a hole drilled in the middle to tie the string onto. I didnt need a pully so i glued a peice of tube just under the roof above the door for the sring to slide over and have a nice round edge to go over and not an edge to wear on the string. All the rest i had to do was drill a hole thru the wall between the truck docks and train bay up high in line with where the string will slide over the tube.
Last things i had to do was to tie the string to the door, run the string over the tube and thru the wall into the train bay. Making sure that the door was fully open, tie the washer that will be the control weight on the string but not permently untill you run the door up and down to make sure that the position of the washer will work. When it's okay, tie a couple good strong knots on the washer and trim off any extra. One final thing i like to do which i picked up from fly fishing is to take a little glue and put it on the knot to really make it strong.
Here are a couple photos and links to videos i did. i use my pocket camera for the videos so sorry about them not being to great.
Thanks and please ask any questions you like, im glad to help.Enjoy!!!

Oh boy! I can use this idea!. I can make a tiny z scale Marie Antoinette. Just the thing to celebrate Bastille day in Z scale! VIVE LA GUILLOTINE!
