I had to give a real challenge for this one. I grew up on the Bloomsburg subdivision of the DL&W, granted it was EL, when I was born and then Conrail by the time I was 2. Even had a ride on the Lehigh Valley mountain sub before Conrail sold it to the Reading & Northern.

No - this is Centrailia Pensylvania-- The coal mines started burning maybe thirty years ago and they can'y put the fire out- It's estamated to possibly burn for another couple hundred years. I think the towns population- last reported- 18 citizens--the rest were moved. I guess Centrailia- EAST and WEST have some pretty HOT stuff:)

REALLY BIG GONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You are right about the population of Centralia but, I grew up 50 miles from there and it is still burning. If you want more about that area of PA, including the correct spelling, please go to www.pahighways.com/features/centralia.html.

They had this on the history channel once. BTW take the period off the link at the end otherwise you'll be sent to highway 404

Sorry about the period Mr White, my bad, I don't recommend going there, unless you have a death wish, it is still a very toxic atmosphere and the subsidence risk is off the charts. For a while they were worried other coal seems were going to get caught up in it but, luckily it has been contained to the immediate area. Fred, sorry, no excuses,

Why don't you give it a few more days. Seems like all the sites are slow right now, guess real life has everyones attention.

Here's a good last clue:
